JOIN US IN MAKING A DIFFERENCE AND Registering Millennials to vote in the u.s.
Global Millennials for Progress is excited to partner with Rock the Vote to register and mobilize at least 100,000 millennials (and others) to vote in the 2018 U.S. midterm elections.
Rock the Vote has registered and turned out millions of new voters since 1990. Rock the Vote is the largest nonprofit and nonpartisan organization in the United States driving the youth vote to the polls. For more than 25 years, Rock the Vote has revolutionized the way we use pop culture, music, art and technology to inspire political activity. The organization has pioneered ways to make voting easier for young adults by simplifying and demystifying voter registration and elections.
It is often said that voting is the bedrock of the U.S. democracy, however, many groups were denied this sacred right of citizenship for centuries. The U.S. 66th Congress passed the 19th amendment, granting women the right to vote, which was signed into law in 1920. It was a much more arduous process, however, for other marginalized racial groups to gain the coveted right of citizenship. Largely due to the effectiveness of the Civil Rights Movement, the U.S. 89th Congress passed the 15th amendment, granting all citizens regardless of race or color the right to vote, which was signed into law in 1965.
As the largest generation population in the U.S. at 75 million, millennials would make up 35% of the U.S. electorate if every person between the age of 36 and 16 voted. In the 2016 U.S. election, less than half of eligible millennial voters voted. GMFP fundamentally believes that millennials have agency and are the key to achieving the global goals we promote. By enlarging the millennial voting block, GMFP is better poised to build sustainable solutions with stakeholders that will bring about the change we seek.
Global Millennials for Progress is seeking to mobilize 100,000 millennials to register and vote by the 2018 US midterm elections. Help us take action and spread the word!
